In reply to Cain Nuke. No. The difference between Science Fiction and Fiction genres is that Science fiction is based on real life science. So Godzilla is definitely in the fiction category.

The Thing From Another World isn’t “mostly sci-fi” because there’s a UFO in it.
I’d say Silence Of The Lambs is more of a thriller.

This is what i think:

Horror and thriller do overlap because are usually used as two different thing: thriller is about the genre while horror is abot the theme of the movie. There are thrillers, psychological-thrillers and horror-thrillers; on the other side there are horror-comedies and modern horror-romance.

Horror can be seen as a genre too. That way any movie that is meant to scare you is horror. On the other side this theory leaves out all those movies that, in a way or another, because they’re funny or are bad, just can’t scare you.

That’s an interesting question and discussion. I would say just watch whatever movies you want and don’t worry about their genre.

Silence of the Lambs is not a horror movie. Jurassic Park is not a horror movie. Godzilla is not a horror movie. Requiem For A Dream is not a horror movie. Taxi Driver is not a horror movie. Mommy Dearest is not a horror movie. The Passion of the Christ is not a horror movie. SCHINDLER’S LIST IS NOT A HORROR MOVIE!!!! I love Monster Madness but this video…..just….come on. I understand that we’re trying to identify film as horror or not via it’s usual symptoms but film doesn’t really work that way. I know Jurassic Park might have all the queues of a traditional horror movie but it’s not. It’s just not. It’s like K-Pax said about all creatures in the universe inherently knowing the difference between right and wrong(maybe it was good and evil, I forget), it’s like, you just KNOW what is and isn’t horror.

James is brave for calling schindlers list horror. I think it is. Horror doesn’t have to be fantastical or even fictional. A true even heppened that was horrific. Make a movie about it. Show the horror, ensufre it doesn’t happen again through mass awareness.
