It looks a bit like this game I saw at the arcade years ago. I don’t remember the name, but it felt themed on Big Trouble in Little China. On occasion levels would teleport you from city streets to a spiritual world. Have any clue what game this might be?

I slammed my player 1 controller off the floor breaking it open during one of the countless runs I took at the final boss in Super R-Type. Finally beat him on my only remaining controller the next day with time to cool off and reflect. Cousin was pretty pissed our MK2 wars were put on hold for a while, but at least I beat Super R-Type.
