I love Metallica because of there punk and sabbath influence. Unfortunately they lost me by 94 but and justice & 5.98 ep garage days are my favorite. Great podcast, I’m just finding these out and would love more, thank u.

I was surprised James didn’t include Pantera’s cover of Black Sabbath’s “Planet Caravan” in his honorable mentions of cover songs. He named a bunch of Black Sabbath songs that had been covered, and a few Pantera cover versions of songs, but not Planet Caravan. My favorite album is “Far Beyond Driven” and Planet Caravan was such a cool way to finish it off after kicking your ass for 11 songs…

A few other great cover songs:
-Sepultura cover of Bob Marley’s “War”
-Jimi Hendrix cover of Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower”
-Pantera cover of Poison Idea’s “The Badge”
-Strapping Young Lad cover of Judas Priest’s “Exciter”
-Guns n Roses cover of Wing’s “Live and Let Die”
-Mindless Self Indulgence cover of Rush’s “Tom Sawyer”
-Faith No More cover of The Commodore’s “Easy”

and I gotta mention, even though it’s not a cover, Lil Jon’s song “Stop Fucking With Me” which is him rapping over the music of Slayer’s “Raining Blood”

My band back in 2003-2004 played with a band called MoJo Filter from Pittsburgh and they use to cover 4 songs from St. Anger and its was the best sounding coolest music ever! After hearing there version vs Metallica, I could finally kinda get into the Metallica version. However, the issues with the snare was completely intentional, Lars had set up this whole campaign to revolutionize snare sound and sold his brand name snares that sound like that shitty snare on the album. At best it was a failed experiment that ruined the album. I would like to hear a re-mix with only the snare sound changed and I bet it would be awesome. Similarly you can listen to versions of AJFA… on youtube with the bass guitar, but I don’t think that is as good, something about that high pitched guitar and sound on that album that rocks!! Great review guys!!

It’s great that the both you of like Metallica as much as you all do!

I listen to a lot of bands that cover many genres of metal as do a lot of my friends and acquaintances. Unfortunately a majority of those people I know have no problem expressing how much they love riding the ‘Tallica-hating gravy train since it is the cool thing for those involved in the underground heavy metal spectrum to do so. That being said, it’s always great to hear other people express appreciation for all of Metallica’s work, and with great attention to detail in regards to the history of the band and you guys’ personal experiences. Hearing you both mention how great of a song “Low Man’s Lyric” is just made me squee with delight, especially considering that I personally have been binging on “Load” and “Reload” these past few years; both of those albums have that catchy, nut-kicking rawness that is hard to ignore. “Thorn Within” has remained to be my favorite Metallica song since I started that binge.

This is the first of your “Audio Slaughter” segments that I have listened to. I’m looking forward to hearing the others and any future related podcasts should you choose to do more!
