They’re only really training wheels is all. I’ve only gotten a lot better at many games both off and on the actual console itself, and I don’t seem to get as angry too when I fail. Thats’ because it really is my fault rather than the game not allowing me to learn via focusing on my mistakes, sending me where ever.

Personally, I practically use them now just to start where I left off directly or to simulate infinite continues or lives as in “I Wanna Be the Guy”, as wasting more time isn’t really challenge to me. If you were going to die a lot anyhow, you don’t need additional stress from complete do-overs…that’s up to the failing or the hard part itself.

That stuff should be left to extreme modes, which is why we need higher difficulties in games todays.

Besides, lives were created for use in arcades in the first place, as a form of penalty or balance, so that people don’t stand in front of the same arcade machine less they pop it full of money.
