C-3PO is gold- and is reverred by the Ewoks as some mystic being. Luke realizes this, and suggests Threepio act as such= and then get’s a little help via the Force- in just about the same way.

I wouldn’t normally think that made sense, but as a fellow film buff- who is familiar with many of the films Lucas referenced here- it may just be true. Anyway, if not- I still think it’s a neat thought. 🙂

Likewise with the fact that some series had both the words “phantom” and “menace” in some of their titles. How many ways are there to really say hidden/unknown threat that sound good in a title? Unless there’s evidence of that it sounds like just another coincidence, and an even more tenuous one at that.

Like the bar-scene and western comparison; oh wow, so they had bars in the wild west did they? Here’s some news; we’ve had bars for centuries at least, so why are westerns the ones that are obviously being referenced here?

Okay, so sure, there are definitely references in these films to other media, but not everything is a reference; sometimes you just want a character in a bar and so it happens, whether it looks like a similar scene from somewhere else is irrelevant, and probably coincidental, and probably just accidental; there are only so many ways you can film some being in a bar.

I dunno, the history part is interesting to cover, but come-on, there’s a point where you’re looking for stuff that isn’t there. Maybe it reminds you of something, but that’s most likely a coincidence.
