In The era of Champion Matsuri(festival in Japanese), Godzilla had become as idol for japanese kids of that day, they loved the kaijus as a hero and also loved Manga, the japanese comic book.

they loved comedy manga called gyagu manga which is japanese pronounciation of gag manga, one of it is The Osomatsu-Kun. osomatsu means rumpy or humble, cheezy, humpty dumpty in japanese, kun is direct young boy or girl. Osomatsu kun can be translated roughly the humpy dumpy kid osomatsu.

In the manga, most famous gag is The pose of “She~~~~h!” which include yelling a meningless word “sheh” loudly with arms and one leg flex sufficien direction while jumping, when you suprised or felt weirdly funny. The gag was hot. Everybody did it.

Now you know that, The pose of sheh IS The godzilla dance.

He was incredibly tenacious. He grew up poor and, destitute, in New Jersey. He thumbed to L.A. as a teen, determined to make it in the movies.

That’s exactly what he did.

A classic tale of the American Dream.

He ended up being very close friends with Elvis Presley, and James Dean. He had his own T.V. series called “The Rebel”, and was a supporting actor in a lot of big movies like “Picnic”. His life was a true rags, to riches story, and he was once quoted as saying he would never do a film abroad. He was very, very close to being on top of the world.

So, how in the world did he end up in a low budget Japanese Godzilla movie?

You tell me? Something went South. Deep South. There’s rumors of him being gay,, having affairs with Dean, and Presley?,,, I don’t buy it.

He supposedly did have an affair with the Japanese woman who played the leader of Planet X in this film. I DO buy that.

He died in 1968, at age 36 of a drug overdose.

What the hell?

Nick Adams. Rest in Peace.
